DWELE, GREATER THAN ONE

In the J Dilla universe – associates include Common, Q-Tip, Erykah Badu, The Roots – singer/composer Dwele is a constellation unto himself. His new album, “Greater Than One” (E-One Music) is without a doubt one of this year’s top achievements in neo-soul, containing 13 tracks of tight grooves, party jams and inventive beats. If the standard bearer for this year’s most progressive hip/hop soul recording is Frank Ocean’s “Channel Orange” (which it is), then Dwele’s new joint thrives as an alternative that’s nearly as fresh.

The spare and beautiful cover artwork of Dwele in the Eames chair reminded me of other recordings that paired artists with modern furniture, and a quick recall of music in my own collection plus a perusal online came up with these examples. I know there are others... (sorry about the lousy formatting!)
